"Who could I call to ask how to cook a potato? Who would listen to me talk about my work for more than five minutes? Who would tell me everything? Who would forgive me for everything? How could I possibly navigate this world without the person who brought me into it?"

I am going to put notes in the margins for my own daughters. In the face of my grief about losing my mother, this book brought comfort. Written by a mother and daughter, it offers up realistic advice and comfort about how to handle it when a mother (who you are close to) dies.
I finished the margin notes today, and it was kind of a difficult thing to close the books. I bought two copies, one for each girl, and most of the comments are identical so they can each have their own copy. There are a few things individual to each girl. I highly recommend this as a book to give to an adult daughter, or even to a child who will eventually receive it.
