Scarlett St. Clair has done it again! She continues to be my favorite fantasy author.
Terror at the Gates is her newest novel , set in a dark fantasy world. This world is controlled by it's religion and men in power. Lilith decides to leave her own home, in hopes of keeping some of her own freedom. It's not as easy even away from home though. She must fight constantly for herself.
Lilith is our main character, a beautiful, bada**, and resilient woman. She is the epitome of going against the man. Every female will see something of themselves in this character.
This story is so many of our stories, wrapped up in a dark magical world. Add found family, an adorable kitten, and a hot af 'touch her and die' MMC. religious power, trauma, and so much more.
I am honestly still reeling from reading this, and am stuck trying to figure out a way to review this book and give it the justice it deserves. Scarlett St Clair as always does her research and historical work. She always makes sure her world-building makes sense and matches the myths and works she pulls from. Her stories may be based off of many things, but they are still one of a kind and original works of beauty, adventure, emotion, and more. She keeps you craving more and this book is no different. I can't wait for my physical copy to come in so I can sit down and re-read it.
Maybe after my re-read I can write a better review. I also am reluctant to add more because I wouldn't dare try to spoil this amazing book for anyone.

Thank you to NetGalley, Scarlett St. Clair, and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 stars
I was immediately sucked into the story by the characters. This was an interesting story. Lilith is such a strong character despite the horrors that she has been through. Please, check trigger warnings. I didn’t think that they were heavily discussed, which made it easier to read about. Her friendship with Gabriel, Esther, and Coco is such a great found family. Zahariev is a mysterious, powerful, and protective MMC. I feel like he is exactly what Lilith needs. It’s so sweet the friendship he has with Gabriel. I enjoyed this book. I devoured it in a day. I can’t wait to read book 2. I need to know what’s going to happen next.
