A beautiful book to peruse. Who knew that a cookbook would have so much to say about how to be a good neighbor? How essential food and music are to paving that path? Beautiful essays and photographs

This book had two parts for me, one high and one lower. The high part is the narrative of life in Harlem. So good and so evocative. The lower part were the recipes, that because I'm a long time vegetarian, didn't exactly revolve around my diet but were interesting nonetheless.

Oh Marcus. I have such a crush on your cooking. I don't know if I will ever in my life make one recipe from this book... and yet reading about the hows and whys is so interesting and inspiring and just FUN. Will I go to Red Rooster someday and order as many dishes as I can afford? Hell yes. But I can't shake the label of this as restaurant food, not home cooking. Not my home cooking anyway. Still a great book.

This is one of the ones where you would not cook anything from the cookbook at home. But it makes me really want to go visit the restaurant. The pictures are beautiful and full of life, and everything in the cookbook books delicious. I just wouldn't make it in my house.
