Temptation Ridge was an okay book in the Virgin River series simply because there were too many story lines to follow. Instead of diving into two characters it felt like the story line focused on five. Important things happen in this book so I don’t recommend a reader skipping it if they’re reading the whole series. Looking forward to the next book and hoping it’s simpler.

A lot going on in this book. Shelby and Luke are the main couple but there's also Cameron and Abby. And Cheryl Chreighton, the town's drunk is back and thanks to Mel I think she will have a book of her own. I can also see books about Luke's four brothers. So, hints of future couples, unexpected pregnancies and saying goodbye to a beloved character. It was a lot of fun reading this book.

I always said I would read a Carr, and now I did.

But so many stories and people! And since it's a series, I mean yikes how many people showed up. I did not feel lost, I just wished it could have been more focused on Luke and Shelby. Now I had to care about a bunch of other peeps too. Like Shelby's uncle who is having a romance with a a movie star. And this woman who meets a doctor (can't say more there). And then there are people who found love in previous books.

Shelby, a 25 year old who has not lived, but taken care of her mother, is the one looking for love.
And then there is a 38 year old veteran who is all, no love for me. You know one of those men who thinks they know best, and you just wanna hit them (fine, yes I want to hit everyone!). Because they always think they know what the woman should do, but in reality everyone is happier as it is.

So they meet, fall in love, have their romance in this small knit community. They have their drama and then they live happily ever after.

Good

Another amazing, smooth, heart-felt read by Carr in the Virgin River series. I love that we can keep up with all the other characters and their romances: their relationships, the weddings and babies. Is this series unrealistic? For sure it is. Does it make you feel good? Hell yes. I am happy to suspend my disbelief and dive into a book full of love, brotherhood, good people and good feelings once in awhile. While Luke is frustrating, Shelby is completely stubborn, strong and spunky. There's an age difference there, but that's a good thing- it makes the story a little more real. There's a death in this story too, and I won't give it away, but it's not entirely unexpected. The next in the series, Paradise Valley, will have a hard time living up to this one- I could hardly put it down! On to the next!

This is a fun growing together of Luke and Shelby. Even through all the silly pieces of too much pride for their own good I really like both characters and loved the journey of them coming together. I like how each book there is a teaser of the new characters coming in the future books of the series and I already like the Riordan family. I love Luke's relationship with Art and how he brings him into his fold with so much respect. I like the growing relationship with Walt and Muriel and seeing the beginnings of how it will all play out with Cameron and Abby. 4*

I'm going to read this entire series but it feels like the stories are beginning to get rushed and it isn't developing in the same way. The first few books were so intricate and intense. Well thought out. These stories are doubling up romances now instead of focusing on a single couple and just aren't developing the stories as well. I hope it gets better! I'm still OBSESSED with Virgin River!
