* spoiler alert ** This book broke my heart and I will say trigger warning for drug abuse, parent leaving, and Overdosing, maybe suicide. in this book we follow trace as he goes about his life after his big brother major accident ( this happens before the book even starts). Trace being 12 years old and trying to figure out a way to fix his family and bring everyone together and become the family they once was. Trace's story broke my heart simply because A child should never have to feel like they should fix the problems with in the family. Now I will go in to a spoiler here and that is trace finds his brother after he has Overdosed lucky trace found his brother in time but this broke my heart even more I almost could get myself to finish the book after this scene because even though this book is fiction this is somebodies real life in today's world and a child even at the preteen age should have to see that. really no one should and with that I'm going to wrap up this review because just thinking about it is s breaking my heart. So with that remember to be kind to yourself and read what you love

I was expecting way more from this one. I’m not sure if it was because of it being a middle grade story, but Ellen Hopkins didn’t give us much detail about Will and his struggles like she has with her characters who battle drug addictions in her other novels, which left a lot to be desired in terms of the plot. It came off more angsty than anything, which made me feel like the inclusion of Will’s opioid addiction was ultimately unnecessary. I didn’t feel any emotions towards any of the characters, and found the inclusion of the sexism plot line between Trace and his new little-league teammate Catalina to be extremely jarring as well. It made the entire reading experience feel clunky and left me wondering what the point of it was…
