I was a wee doubtful and a bit scared of what I got myself into when I started reading this book, with the way it started out. Here you have these two characters standing outside a sex toy store and the one talking about magic calling to her? Definitely an interesting way to start out a book. I quite enjoyed the read though after getting past the initial “whaaat?” reaction when I started.

While the book may have involved the “Fairy Godmother Council”, the “Guardian Angels”, demons, etc… What I found interesting - and whether the author intended this or not - was by the end of the book, I found it a creative reflection on society and how someone’s prejudices a lot of times come from other individuals or groups they know, and trust, who are misinformed or mislead in the first place. And when one takes or believes those as fact, it often creates assumptions, misunderstandings, and at times hate for no reason other than “because so and so told me”. As was the case with first meetings between Claire and Tamiel, and then again with those two ladies and Yakum. Maybe my mind went deeper than the author intended the readers to go, or maybe not.

But putting all that deeper meaning talk aside, the book was quite quirky as well. I mean how can it not be? With fairy godmothers, godfathers, angels, demons, half-demons, well… you get my point. The personifying of Claire’s wand, making it have an actual personality of it’s own, made situations even more interesting for sure. It was definitely a fun read.

This was a really fun read. It was a fast read, but really worked for me. I typically do not like short stories or novellas, but again this one did a fantastic job. I was also happy it was different than a typical urban fantasy read. Leads are a fairy godmother, and a guardian angel. When I first started the book I wasn’t sure about it, but I laughed several times while reading it, chuckled a few more so for it being a short easy read I feel like it was a good pickup. I am also unsure if it would appeal to the urban fantasy folks as it would to more of a chick lit crowd with a little urban fantasy thrown in. I liked it. The only bit I would like to change is I really could have used a bit more. I just like solid reads, though of course it is personal preference. Good idea though, and I am really looking forward to the future books in the Window Shopping Collection.

Tread Lightly follows our main character, Claire, who is a Fairy Godmother. Her job is to give people their own happily ever after! When Claire gets assigned a mysterious case she quickly realizes that she signed up for more than she had thought. During her first day working on this new case she meets a guardian angel named Tamiel. We then follow this unlikely duo on their journey to figure out Claire’s case.
Tread Lightly is full of Fairy Godmothers, Angels, and Demons! This story was short, sweet, and fun! I recommend giving it a read if you are ever in a reading slump or just looking for something easy and good!

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is a cute fantasy/supernatural novella about a fairy godmother, Claire, who goes on assignments to give happy ever afters to her clients. I really like how the author combine different supernatural and fantasy elements together in this story. There's guardian angels, demons, magic wands, etc. Also, some of the famous fairy tales are hinted as if they are based on what actually happened in Claire's past.

The characters are mostly well written. Some of the side characters, including Tamsil the guardian angel, is a little underdeveloped. I know this is a novella and focus mainly on Claire's perspective. Still, it would be nice to get a better sense of who Tamsil is as we only know her being a guardian angel and that's it. My favorite character in the story is Claire's wand (I can't remember how to spell its name haha) and that kinda say a lot about other characters' development.

The author did a good job keeping things interesting and put in a nice twist in the near to ending. I actually didn't expect the twist. I also like how the author write some characters to be more of "grey" instead of simple good or bad. I think that help keep the story more interesting.

I won a free copy of this book from the author, but all views are my own.

This book was a delight to read. I'm a sucker for magical realism (especially with LGBT characters). The author balanced the lighthearted concept of fairy godmothers and guardian angels in the modern world with a compelling plot really nicely. I genuinely laughed a couple of times while reading this - particularly during the final scene. All in all, exactly what I needed to read during this lockdown!

This was really fun! A cute, charming, and quirky story about lesbian fairy godmothers and guardian angels struggling to stay true to their cause while also staying relevant in this modern world. This is definitely going on the list of books I recommend when someone asks for lighthearted happily-ever-after stories about women who love women (it's a request I hear a lot, and every new book I discover that fits the bill is cause for celebration).
