The beginning of this book was good, some parts in the middle were boring, and the last two or three chapters were interesting. I'm not sure if I want to read How Mrs. Claus Saved Christmas, and wanting to read it was the original reason for reading this book.

I put this onto my to-read list a few years ago and by the time I got around to adding it to a challenge I'd forgotten why I ever made note of it. I looked at the title and I wondered what was on my mind. It seemed so NOT what I'm interested in. Ha! - I should trust myself more.

This book is a wonderful mixture of history and fantasy and gets the blend just exactly right. With the good humour that we associate with Father Christmas, we are taken through many of the key points of European history and into the development of North America. We travel with St. Nicholas and his trusty sidekick, Felix, across the miles and across the centuries in order to spread a little joy to children, and we have a wonderful time collecting various famous figures - from Attila the Hun and King Arthur, Leonardo da Vinci ... oh, I haven't got the book in front of me right now and I'm going to leave people out if I try to list more, so I'll leave it with just those three. But there are several others - ones they meet and ones who become Helpers, thus no longer aging and being able to move at a speed far greater than the 'normal' person.

This is a superb addition to the must-read Christmas stories.
