I had a decent time with this book. The twists were good. I think it was just maybe a bit too YA for me? I usually really enjoy YA books, but there was something about this one that just screamed it was for a younger audience than me.

Amazing! I felt all the feelings with this book. There is something for everyone to relate to.

This is truly not for the weak. Or maybe I'm just not that strong with the sheer amount of gore hin here. Also this is YA? I'm currently reading a lot of femminist theory and this accompy my thoughts nicely, since this gender and queer struggle in here are very relevant.

I have some complex feelings about this book which fits because this is a complex book. It is violent, graphic, and disturbing. Several times I had to set this book down and snuggle a pet. But still I went back. Silas and Daphne offer some warmth amongst all the horror and heartache making this one of the better Gothic romances I've come across. (note: light on the romance but what is there is beautiful). I would love to see more stories in this world given that The Veil seems to have come about as the bloody results of conquest, colonization, slavery, and misogyny. There's certainly plenty of graves to choose from for material.

My biggest gripe is that I just did not like the ending that implied there could be a sequel.
