Beautifully written and truly displayed some of the horrors a not so distant past held, as a queer person I found the graphic descriptions of the disgusting reality of conversion therapy and forced child birth deeply heartbreaking and horrifying, loved the magical twists but honestly got invested enough in the vileness of it being so close to reality I might have preferred a more realistic setting, truly a masterpiece of fiction

While significantly better than his first novel, the characters in this story are still very one dimensional. Though this time, instead of focusing on the main characters' transness, we are focused on his neurodivergency. Additionally, it felt as though he forgot we were in regency era London and would randomly interject with the "proper" language, which felt unnecessary.
Nevertheless, this book was agonizing and horrifying in the best ways. It was thrilling, gross, and beautiful.

This book has a big fantasy element (ghosts, mediums etc) but so much of it draws from real life that the real-life elements of this story are actually much much scarier than the fantastical ones. Because we know they are real.
