*4.5 OMG! That ending! That book! This book was soooo creative and smart. It was a fast, intense, suspenseful, interesting. Just wow.

Interesting enough story & structure - finished in just a few days. But I cringed through a lot of the writing. Not a fan of her writing style at all.

first true crime book, now i’m hooked

2.5/5
Ok I had had my eye on this book for a very long time and I found it in a charity shop for £2! But then when I actually read it, it kind of fell flat and it was such a disappointment, probably because i had hyped it up so much in my head. I thought the story just kind of lacked any direction because there were times where i was like "wait why is she doing this again?" It just didn't grip me the way i had expected it to (it being a thriller and all) :/

Well that was something else. Sadie is unlike any novel I’ve ever read, and it was near impossible for me to put down. I read it in just a few hours and I honestly cannot believe the last time I felt the need to do that. The format of Sadie was so interesting, alternating chapters being from Sadie’s POV and the POV of a podcast narrator. I enjoy podcasts so I found it very interesting being able to feel as if I was actually listening to a weekly podcast (note: I found out recently that there is actually a podcast to go with the novel which makes this even more interesting.)

I honestly don’t know what I can say about this novel without giving away too much. It was harrowing, it was compelling and it was sad. I felt the pain Sadie felt, and I wanted a happy ending for her. The more the story went on the more I was able to understand that losing her sister meant she lost her happy ending for good. I feel as if the novel was shedding light on so many missing and murdered girls, and though it is important, that got deep under my skin.

Though I feel as if the ending of the novel was fitting, it wasn’t entirely what I wanted
Spoiler I of course wanted her to kill her abuser and then live life as a strong and independent woman, but how could she? I feel as if his death was gratifying, but I wanted her to live. I also wanted to know more about what happened that night with Mattie, but we will never know.
I am not saying I disliked the ending, I just wanted things to be different.

Overall, the novel absolutely gutted me, and I couldn’t recommend it more.

Some stories break you. Sadie’s story shattered me.

“Because I can’t take another dead girl.”

A story told from Sadie’s perspective and West McRay, a radio personality trying to unfold the tragic story of Sadie and her dead sister, Mattie.

I don’t know what I expected from this, but it wasn’t this. I feel numb yet I feel so much right now. It’s hard to believe some words on paper can have such an impact.

I couldn’t put this book down. My eyes remained glued to every page and I kept trying to read every word carefully while flipping each page faster just so I could some answers.

I don’t want to say much, except that you should read it because EVERYONE needs to read this. Don’t go into it knowing too much. Let yourself be surprised and uncomfortable. Because I flinched, I felt my heart break, and felt the sickening twist of my stomach knowing the reality of the world.

Hands down, my favourite YA Mystery I’ve ever read.
