this was the first book that I ever read by Beverly Lewis been hooked ever since I love her and her writing... I would tell people to read them I know she writes about amish people but let me tell you she is an amazing Author and I almost own all of her books now :) great read!!!!!!
I've become extremely interested in the Plain life of the Amish in recent months.
Katie Lapp was born and raised Amish - or so she believes. On the eve of her wedding, Katie finds she is adopted. She was born English, which accounts for her love of music, fancy things and her longing to hum and sing along with music.
The revelation throws Katie into turmoil. Who is she? Who is her mother? Many unanswered questions...
When she is shunned from the life she has known for twenty two years, she takes the oppurtunity and goes to find her true self...
#1 in the Heritage of Lancaster County Series.

I've been intrigued by the Amish romances for awhile now, so I thought I'd give one a shot. Anytime I'm in Amish country these books are on the shelves, and this one is one of the first in a growing genre. Obviously I read it pretty quickly, and the plot was interesting. The writing left something to be desired, especially Lewis' way of writing Amish dialogue - to me, it came off sounding Southern rather than German-influenced. I did like the characters and want to know what happened to them, so I might finish off the rest of this trilogy just to have the closure (they're really quick reads and easy to come by through downloadable libraries), but I don't think I'll be trying any new stories in the genre.
Also, if you read a lot of books or have any imagination at all, you'll have seen the ending coming from a mile away.

This is a mini ‘Books For Christian Girls’ review. It is not a full content review and will not receive one. These mini-reviews are years old and just for clarity on the rating the book received on Goodreads.

“Huh. I'm not quite sure to think. I saw the ending coming, but the whole plot feels very familiar. Maybe because I've seen the movie years ago? (Perhaps the movie is closer to the book than most book-to-movie adaptions?) I'll continue reading this trilogy just to find out what happens, but Bishop Beiler gives me the creeps.”

Mentioned in a recent video that I would be unhauling this trilogy because I decided that I didn't necessarily want to reread them.
*Main Content-
Mentions of chopping off chicken heads; Minor cussing (wretched).
Two barely-above-not-detailed border-line semi-detailed kisses and two semi-detailed kisses; Many mentions of purity & innocence; Mentions of a teen pregnancy; Mentions of wedding nights & sharing a bed; Mentions of miscarriages & stillbirths.

After the utter disappointment of "The Redemption of Sarah Cain," I did not hold out high hopes for this book which served as my introduction to the Amish Christian fiction genre. (I still do not understand the obsession with the lifestyle, the obsession that has led to the creation of an entire genre that unfortunately flies off the shelf.) While the book was not quite as much fluff as "The Redemption of Sarah Cain," none of the characters were adequately developed. Everything felt rushed and character choices made little sense. The outcome could have been predicted at the beginning of the book. I am not bothering to read the remainder of the series. All three books are going into the donate pile.
One of my friends has been singing the praises of these Amish books for quite some time. After reading 10 books in a row about zombies, vampires, the apocalypse, aliens and murder, I decided I could use a little bit of R&R with the Amish.
It was very soothing to read. I just wish there had been a little more action. It was so chaste - a little peck on the cheek and then it's time for a wedding. Plus, it was so sexist. Women should be quiet and listen to the men. Women do all the cleaning and cooking. Ugh!
Although I'm not sure why I expected anything different. It was an Amish romance novel, not one of my beloved smutty historicals.

I've read the first 2. They're ok, but it's kind of like a bad Lifetime movie-many characters are flat, some of the plot is contrived, and some good plot elements are underdeveloped, but you can't stop watching. I am drawn to them because of my interest in the Amish-my grandpa grew up in Amish country, but I think I might like another author better.
Stopped reading about 4 chapters in. Droll. Trite, Horribly boring. It moves at the pace of an amish buggy on a highway. You get stuck behind and when you think it can't get any worse they horse drops a road apple.
