This could have been a 4 ⭐️ book EASILY. I wish the critique of capitalism was a tad more explicit. Also I think such critique would have benefited from the author giving us insight, from the perspective of Keiko, into how the coworkers act in an environment outside of the store.

edit: My gut was telling me to bump this book to 4 stars, so I bumped the book to 4 stars. The world-building of the convenience store coupled with conversations with “normal” people is an explicit, yet subtle, critique of capitalist ideology.

clearly the main character is autistic without it being stated, I found it interesting to have her eccentricities described from her point of view

I needed a quick read to pull me out of a reading slump and this was pretty fun! I really liked reading from Keiko’s perspective, but I hated the rants that Shiraha went on. In general, I found him to be a pain.

I was really glad she cut him off and returned to doing what she felt the best at the end!!
