Keiko á erfitt með að finna sér stað í samfélaginu og skilur hvorki það né samskipti neitt sérlega vel, en henni líður vel í kjörbúðinni þar sem hún styðst við handbók og frasa sem segja henni hvernig allt á að ganga fyrir sig. Þegar þrýst er á hana að taka næstu skref í lífinu, eftir 18 ára starf í búðinni (og hún orðin 36 ára gömul og hjónaband "eðlileg" framvinda) verða málin aðeins snúin og hún reynir að leysa úr þeim - með óvæntum afleiðingum. Þetta er bráðskemmtileg, næm, stundum sorgleg en líka fyndin bók. Mér fannst dásamlegt hvernig höfundur gat sagt gamansögur af einhverjum sem er öðruvísi án þess að gera lítið úr Keiko fyrir að vera öðruvísi. Það var fyndið en á sama tíma hjartnæmt og fékk mann bara til að þykja meira vænt um hana. Og á sama tíma og maður skildi svo ástvini hennar og vini fyrir að hafa áhyggur af henni og langa svo til að hún væri "eðlileg" og geta átt "eðlilegt" líf, þá langaði mann á sama tíma að öskra á það að taka henni og leyfa henni bara að vera eins og hún er. Aðeins þannig getur maður verið hamingjusamur, ekki með því að reyna að passa í eitthvað hlutverk sem maður einfaldlega er ekki. Það fannst mér svo fallegur boðskapur við þessa bók og Sayaka Murata tókst mjög vel að koma honum til skila.

I definitely did not know where it was headed, but its dark humor and straightforwardness were truly a treat. In all scenes and dialogues, as if stationed to face a hypocritical world that wants to feed on society's standards while screaming free will and to live on one's own, this book had its unique way of telling you to go live life however you want it no matter what other people say.
