Kinda disappointed by this series. Not sure what's missing for me. I usually LOVE Pamela Clare's work but these first two in this series are DNF's for me.
Maybe I'll try again later.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH NET GALLEY IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW. RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

As a fan of the author's I-Team and Blakewell/Kenleigh series, I was excited to hear about this new series, but was a bit disappointed by the first installment of this series. That being said, this second installment wasn't quite where I wanted it to be, in fact, I found it to be even worse than the first book in the series, and I feel that I rounded up on that rating!

The prologue is nothing more than a rehashing of the first meeting of the main characters that appeared in the first book. It did allow readers to understand the jump to a year later easier, so I could understand why it was added to this book.

However, I really didn't see these two falling in love, because there wasn't much in the way of alone time between the two of them. Sure, there was a lot of attraction, but not a lot of meaningful conversation, especially in light of the fact that this is mainly an extension of the first book by showcasing that first couple's wedding.

While there were appearances by the citizenry of the town that I had so enjoyed in the first book, this book kept those appearances to a bare minimum and it didn't feel necessary to this story. The addition of Victoria's family did nothing but anger me for most of the book, until the very end of it, when her father essentially bought my forgiveness.

All things considered, it was a quick and easy read, but I was hoping for much more out of it.

Victoria (Vic) Woodley is back in Scarlet Springs, Colorado for her best friend's wedding. A year before, Eric Hawke met her at the airport and they really got off on the wrong foot. She's Lexie's maid of honor and he's Austin's best man so this time, they've got a week to change course. And, that new course direction was definitely a slow burn.

I was really happy that this next book featured Victoria and Eric as their first encounter was so lively and interesting they were destined to have a strong story. They are well developed characters with strong senses of self but also a great understanding of each other. There aren't any relationship gimmicks used in this story as theirs is open, honest and mature. That's not to say it was bump free but how they handled those issues was in tandem with their natures.

I loved this story, especially the intersection with characters from the I-Team series, one of my favorites. Aside from Eric and Victoria's relationship development, the beauty of the Colorado region was showcased through the week of pre-wedding activities. And, as Eric is a fire chief and search & rescue team member, we get incredible insights about those roles and the impact on family and relationships.

Pamela Clare is an auto-buy author for me and this story inspired me to keep her on that list. I liked everything about this book.

Three and a half smokin' hot fire chief on a mountain stars.

I've read a few of Pamela Clare's I-Team novels/ novella with mixed success, people told me to start with the third one but I haven't got around to it. First off, this is not, I repeat NOT, the I-Team in a different setting.

This is (as far as I can tell from reading the second book in the series) a series about a group of friends in Scarlet Springs, Colorado. Lexi Jewell and Austin Taylor are getting married. The best man is Eric Hawke and the chief bridesmaid is Vic(toria) Woodley. Vic has just had a terrible incident with a former boyfriend and is feeling bruised (metaphorically) and doubting her judgement when it comes to men, the last thing she needs is a smoking hot fire chief who sets off all her internal alarms.

This book is a homage to the beauty of Colorado and all the activities (climbing, whitewater rafting, riding etc) that can be enjoyed. I am a total couch-potato, I sat on my sofa for hours reading this novel and yet I was swept away by the sheer enjoyment of all the activities planned for the bridal week. I really enjoyed the sense of community in the small town, the joie de vivre and the slower pace of life.

However, I must confess I felt the book lagged a bit in the middle, I have an overwhelming feeling of 'just get on with it, already'. Also, on occasion, Vic was soooo nice she bordered on sainthood - I like my heroines feisty and sassy - I imagine this may be as a counterbalance to what happened to Vic, I think it is unnecessary.

Overall, I enjoyed this, I will definitely go back and read the first book in the series, I can't see who will be the subject of the next book (which isn't a bad thing) but I look forward to seeing it in due course.

I received a free copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Slow Burn hit a lot of good points for me: a sexy hero who kind, but a bit dirty, a hate to love relationship, a fun group of friends, and adventures. The prologue shows the first meeting of Victoria and Eric. It's not great, but I didn't feel the exchange was THAT bad (maybe because I didn't read the first book?). It got much better though and the sexual tension between the two was great. I would highly recommend!

Wow, that was fantastic! I just finished reading this book on the way back from a retreat for historical romance readers (shout out to Renee Benard and Delilah Marvelle!), and I am delighted that I got the chance to review this book. You might wonder, if you haven't heard of me before, why is a historical romance reader reading a contemporary romance. Well, this book is why I do! It shows that chivalry is most certainly not dead, and it gives me, a single woman, hope that such men like Eric are out there.

Victoria Woodley is in Colorado for her best friend's wedding as the maid of honor, and who picks her up from the airport but Eric Hawke, the best man. They have a rocky history from the summer before, when they first met, but both are determined to start anew. Especially Vic, who recently went through an ordeal no woman should ever have to go through. Eric and Victoria grow very close, and soon both are thinking in terms of love. The question is, can a city girl be content in a small town, even if it is with the love of her life?

I have to say, at first I was a bit skeptical of Victoria and Eric. Vic seemed like the typical pretty woman, who knows it and flirts with everyone. Likewise, Eric seemed like the typical hot guy, who knows it and sleeps around. Boy, was I wrong! There were so many facets to their personalities, and I found myself wishing they were real. Victoria, while being ridiculously gorgeous and wealthy, was actually very relatable, and Eric was a big softie, who had a bit of a hero complex. Okay, a lot, but hey, he works as a firefighter and a search and rescue/paramedic, so he kind of is. Their love was sweet, and it was a joy to read.

I can't wait to read more books by this author! The next book in the series should be great - I just wonder who it will be about...
