Made it about half of the way through and skimmed the rest. The two main characters are very enjoyable, but the action dragged interminably in the middle. A few of my least favorite fantasy tropes were trotted out (lust at first sight, she’s not like other girls, traitor in our midst, the secret everyone knows, and of course…the heel of one of the stiletto boots I wear to the office gets stuck in a crack a few feet away from a ticking bomb but I’m too stupid to TAKE OFF THE BOOT.)

I almost DNF this book, but I committed to seeing it through since I didn't want to feel like I'd wasted my money buying it. The first thing I got hung up on was that the lead female character is stereotypically "adorkable," small, and clumsy. I got exasperated very quickly with her constant stumbling and falling - which seemed to also be the primary way that the auther created chemistry between the two main characters. Thankfully the chapters are short. I slogged my way through it and finally felt like I got some payoff in the last 5 chapters (when the main mystery was solved). Although the book ends in a cliffhanger and I'm tempted to read the sequel to see how the story is resolved, I'm not sure I'd have the patience. I found the whole thing very one-dimensional (characters, dialogue, scenery), which is unfortunate because the premise has so much promise.

As an adult novel, this seems like something that I would ease someone from young adult novels to an adult novel.

I loved the banter and humor in this book. It was pretty interesting concept and I thought it was done well. I really enjoyed the dual POVs, however, I wish it would have been in 1st person POV. I think that would make it a tiny bit better since it already felt like a 1st person POV. The mystery bit was a nice touch as it gave the story something to actually have plot since it technically would be a rom-com style book.

Definitely a cute/fun read! There were many cliches (that I love), but also a lot that took me by surprise!

Not YA, an easy read that doesn't require any critical thinking. It's hysterical and I read the entire book in about 5 hours. I would probably put this in the romcom catergory, with dark themes but the overall ton is rather lighthearted. There isn't a ton of world building and the setting is rather low fantasy but the world feels appropriate to the level of knowledge that (sheltered) Evil has. Overall this is a very well written book can't wait for the next one!

Quirky, funny, light hearted while still being dark in its own way.

The ending was quite a twist for me, which I so appreciated. It was only then that I kind of woke up and really paid attention. I wish, though, that it hadn’t
been left on such a cliffhanger! Is there going to be a sequel????
