i don't know why this book got such a low goodreads rating, because i think it subverts both the tropes of the suspense as a genre and more narrowly the "dark academia" sub-genre by constantly moving the goal-posts through its hazy, unstable narrative voice of its protagonist.

"Good people do good things, good people do bad things, bad people do worse things."

It took me a while to get into this book. I was ready to throw in the towel, but the story started to grab my attention around the 100 page mark. It's twisty-turny and leaves you second-guessing everything you think you've got figured out. Great story, dark, but great. 3.5 stars.

This is by far not the worst book I've ever read but I wanted to dnf it so many times and absolutely did not care about any of the characters.
