I listened to this in audiobook format and was impressed with how smoothly they “translated” the illustrations into sound. This was a sweet and touching story with an important message.

Me ha conmovido hasta las lágrimas.
Quisiera decir lo mucho que aprecio este libro, en este momento estoy atravesando una difícil situación y vine a refugiarme en la lectura

Palacio is a wonder herself. In another of her Wonder stories, she gives some background into Julien as he talks to his Grandmere for a school project. What ensues is one of the most powerful stories I have read. This story tugged at my heart as few have. I love that one like Julien can learn the lesson that it’s never too late to do good. Highly recommend.

This was my first experience reading a graphic novel, and I really enjoyed the format. It was a beautiful and sad story, but filled with a great message to fight injustice. The ending felt too political and pulled me out of the story a bit. I understood what the author was trying to accomplish, but it didn't quite connect with me.

This book is powerful, beautiful, and heartbreaking. It shows how evil humans can be but also shows the power of choosing love, kindness, and bravery in the face of that evil. I loved it and will recommend it to my library students.
I appreciated the way the author drew comparisons to today’s immigration struggle. That struggle is in no way as big as the holocaust but it contains the same horrors of people not seeing others as fully human, deserving of respect and kindness. I hope this book leads people to think about current issues around the world.

The final pages of this graphic novel about the World War II experiences of the grandmere of Julian (from Wonder/The Julian Chapter).
As a young girl, she is hidden by a friend from school when Nazis come to take the Jewish students away.
The story focuses on the kindness and risks taken by those resisting in France. Like Wonder, it also focuses on someone with a physical challenge—in this case a young boy who survived polio.
The real gut-punch comes in the final pages of the novel when Grandmere reads headlines in the paper that make connections between what is happening in the United States today and her own experiences. An excellent and accessible read.

Everyone should read this book right now. The ending is especially important, books like this remind us how easily cruelty, but also kindness, can happen. This is an especially important read with our new president, and we need to ensure history does not repeat itself. As the book says, "Evil is only stopped when good people finally come together to put an end to it."

Palacio does it again. Amazing historical fiction and the graphic format is great.

RJ Palacio knows how to tell a story whether it’s with words or in a graphic novel with beautiful illustrations. This was the 2nd graphic novel that made me cry! As heartbreaking as this story is to experience, it’s important that middle grade kids read more books like this so that history doesn’t repeat itself.
