A fairly quick, decent read - especially if you’ve just finished Fable and were left on quite the cliffhanger. However, unlike the vast, deep ocean the story takes place around, the book itself is actually quite shallow. Similar to how I felt about the previous book, Namesake is perfectly average on all fronts with its one major draw being the pirate theme.

This first book was so fun and enjoyable to read and this book was a slog. Character motivations made no sense the entire book and the author tells you instead of showing you. I had to skim the second half of the book, almost DNF

I literally have no opinion about this book. I feel like nothing happened.

fable was such a great read for me and i was really looking forward to this one but it was just underwhelming. my main problem was that the found family aspect didn’t feel present, there was hardly any bonding between the characters, and they didn't feel like a real group of friends. the writing is beautiful but the characters seem to have no distinctive personality (except fable).

Entertaining again! Still hard to put down (or shut off, I heard it on audio again).

Namesake is the second book in Adrienne Young's duology about Fable, a gem sage and daughter of a notorious trader. She finds herself being used as a pawn in a larger game full of betrayal and secrets. Fable and the crew of the Marigold must search for a treasure before time runs out that will save not just their crew but the Narrows as well.

Where Fable focused on world-building and character introductions, Namesake focuses on plot. There is little to no introduction before you're back in the thick of the action, which I really enjoyed! The duology as a whole is very fun, and I would not be surprised if it is sold as a boxed set in the future since one is not as enjoyable without the other. Young's storytelling is captivating, and I couldn't put this book down until I had finished it.

I highly recommend this duology to anyone who enjoys YA Fantasy and Action/Adventure. It's full of pirates and treasure hunting with a dash of romance and family drama.

Thank you to St Martin's Press and Wednesday Books for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
