- The tag line is 'Five girls lied. Five girls died." There was no lying. They just all kinda sucked, as teenagers sometimes do, and some were just victims of incredibly bad luck.
- Main character always jumped to conclusions, which would have been okay except that the conclusions always turned out to be correct.
- There were no consequences for bad decisions the main character made. She was putting herself in unsafe situations all the time but it always turned out to be fine.
- The mystery was boring. It was just going around texting and talking to people. The characters in the flashbacks felt like clones of the characters in the present.
- I had pretty much figured who the murderer was going to be because their other connection to the story had to converge with the murder plot somehow, and this seemed the most likely.
- This isn't a complaint with the book, but the MC's last name was Wrayburn (not sure if the same spelling as I use, as I listened to the audio book) and that took me by surprise every time I heard it. I'm the only Wrayburn I know.

I liked this book more than the sequel. While I found this book predictable, I liked the pacing.
