Fantastic book. Bugliosi was the attorney who tried the case for the state. The book is divided into several different parts: the murder (Tate-Labianca), the characters (killers, the deceased, the investigators, the attorneys, basically all the characters involved), the investigation, and then the trial. Bugliosi also adds an afterward to the newest edition (the one I read) that gives an update on the Manson Family. The book has everything. Bugliosi does an excellent job of recreating the crime scene, the investigation, and the trial part was phenomenal. Although the book is over 600 pages long, it doesn't feel like it. If you are into true crime, you must read this book.

This book proves that truth really is stranger then fiction. The Tate-LaBianca murders are described in such detail, I felt like I was actually on the case. You will get irritated on how careless the LAPD and LASO were during the investigation. Thank the Lord Mr. Bugliosi kept it together and was able to put the Manson Family away for good. It was also great insight on how court proceedings work. I also listened to it and Scott Brick does a great job as always.

This was really interesting and also scary - without Bugliosi Manson could still roam freely, the man really gave it his all. Yet at end it felt like everybody participating lost just because they had to be part of the whole ordeal. What a proceeding. I felt fascinated yet a bit nauseaus. Powerful book and I am glad I finally got around to it. Is this the start of my true crime era?

Incredibly detailed book on the infamous Manson murders and subsequent trial by its prosecuting attorney Vincent Bugliosi. This is all all-encompassing account of the murders, what led up to them and what happened after, a biography of Charles Manson and his “family”, and the details of the trials that followed. As someone who has been interested in this case for awhile now, I appreciate the amount of information Bugliosi shared, nothing was left out. A large portion of the book is dedicated to the court trials following the Tate-LaBianca murders, and other crimes by the Manson family, so it slows down and the narration is quite dense with court proceedings. After nearly 200 pages of it, I was ready to finish the book. If you like reading about that sort of thing at length, I believe you’ll enjoy it.

Despite the fact that the book is incredibly factual and matter of fact the material never felt dry. Incredible insight into not just the trial but also how "the family" and Manson worked. Very well written and hard to put down.

This was a re-read for me because it was a BOTM for one of my online book clubs.
I read this first when I was about 17. It still stands up to the test of time. A fantastic true crime court case novel written by the Prosecutor in the case.
