This story is the true story of the Manson Murders. In 1969, Manson's "family" killed 14 people - seemingly at random. Among them was Sharon Tate, who - at the time - was an up and coming actress in Hollywood. The author of this book was the prosecuting attorney for the trial. The book is how Bugliosi built a case, his interviews with members of the Manson "family" and suspects in the murders. The book is a very detailed recount of the interviews and the trials that followed.
This was a good book. I was unaware of exactly what Manson had done (meaning whom he had murdered), so I was intrigued to learn the details. The book brings to light Manson's delusions and how he conned his many followers into believing he was Jesus Christ.
I did find some of the book dry - especially surrounding the trial. I guess it is to be expected when recounting details - it felt a little tedious. But for the most part, the book was well written.

I'm questioning myself giving this a rating but I couldn't put this down, it was so compelling.
I’ve always been drawn to crime and murderers (really, ask me anything) and I was very familiar with the Tate-LaBianca murders but reading this was such a trip... it added so many layers of something I knew fairly well, but in an entire new dimension.
I’ve never read.. what is this genre? Real crime? In fact I don’t think I’ve ever read anything that was not fiction. Despite of the crime/police report-like/legal aspects of it, I was as absorbed as with any other novel so kuddos to Bugliosi for creating such a thing.
The trial kept me so much on the edge, literally rolling my eyes and hating Kanarek, and despite of knowing the outcome of the trial I was all omggggg what’s gonna happen!?!? when they reached the verdict. Far from having a novel style, I went through it like fiction and despite I knew these people existed and still exists, I found myself reacting to “characters” and many events as if it was a novel.
I predict I’m gonna be totally book-hungover.
