Disappointed by this one! It started kinda good, but the character work leaves a lot to be desired and the mystery unfolded in a boring and predictable way.
I won’t be continuing with the serie.

I don’t know what it is about this book, it might have been slow to start but I really enjoyed my time spent with the charcaters and in the world. It’s complex and complicated and Rox and Damian are both trying to find their place in it and make life better for those around them. Tense political situation and trauma included. I will probably start the next one asap

This book starts out as a murder mystery whodunnit kind of book, granted against an Italian inspired fantasy world backdrop. I didn’t quite expect that but was fairly entertained by the Italian-ness. It develops more and more into your usual rebellion against an oppressive upper class with a senseless war and I have to admit that I wasn’t too surprised by most of the developments. Characters were interesting in the way that the FMC is very opinionated and strong whereas the MMC seems softer. What I actually really liked was the portrayal of trauma, war-related PTSD and the long lasting effects on all.

wow this book was definitely something! i don’t know if i have just been in a reading slump or of this book specifically put me in one. the plot sounded SO INTERESTING until i was actually reading it. i was snoozing. HOWEVER, damian is a really smooth talker and his romantic dialogue was really sweet and def would’ve worked on me.
anyways, enzo being revealed as the disciple or chaos aka the murderer seemed to come so far out of left field i was honestly disappointed. and damian’s “ofc it’s him! i’ve never seen him and forte in the same room before!” made me giggle since that’s the only connection and evidence he could’ve had. it’s so stupid 😭
the ending was pretty good and i am going to read the second one since i do want to know what ends up happening. i hope it’s better than this one

Chyba miałam za duże oczekiwania względem tej książki. Nie jest zła, ale też nie świetna. Jest po prostu bardzo mocno średnia.

This book was the perfect recipe for an amazing fantasy mystery combo. But it just didn't come together well. It was so easy to put down, felt disjointed in places, had poor character development, and just never captured me like fantasy normally does.

I really enjoyed the first 100 pages and then the rest just didn’t pack the same punch. I found the world so intriguing and was desperate to know more. I think sadly it was a bit too surface level for me to get fully invested in the characters, the drama and the chaos that the book hoped to relay. An enjoyable enough read.
