Super uncanny short stories. Rebecca Hirsch Garcia is really good at writing gorgeous bits of prose that linger with you. Mother is probably my favorite of the bunch.

I really gravitated towards some of the stories (even if I didn't care for the main character/s). They're all sad in some way, dealing with grief, loss of love, relationships.
The book was very well-written and I felt the emotions the author tried to evoke.
But, I ended up forcing myself to finish because it was darker than I think I wanted, which is why I couldn't give the book 5 stars.  I will still recommend, though, for anyone interested in a Canadian author.

This was such an interesting collection, centred around being a woman, and the dissociation required to get through the day to day. I would 100% turn into a cloud if I could and float around with no responsibilities. It felt like Canada's answer to Watching Women & Girls but far more speculative and full of magical realism. The audiobook was great, I'm getting a real kick out of short story collections as audios as of late.

3.5 rounded up.

This was a standout debut short story collection by a new to me Canadian author! I am the first to admit short stories can be a hard sell for me but I found these delicately balanced relatable with just a touch of the paranormal, making them the perfect #SpookySeason read. Highly recommended for fans of authors like Agustina Bazterrica or Rachel Yoder's Nightbitch. Also great on audio and available for free on Hoopla for library users!

This is a great compilation of stories, mix of contemporary horror and fabulism. Some of my favourites were 'Mother' 'A change of atmospherics' and 'Maps of the unknown'
