This was good in an "I see what you did there" way, and I enjoyed the undertones of fundamentalism, corruption, etc., but I didn't necessarily enjoy reading it, especially at the end

A study in vocabulary while also making profound commentary on the perils of over bearing and greedy governments. I almost wish the ending was simply us realizing that Amos had written a perfect sentence and we were left to our own devices to decide if 1) Ella noticed and 2) the council accepted the sentence and ended their insanity
A very unique read for those who have a love/appreciation for the art of writing and vocabulary

Kudos to the author for pulling off this complicated vocabulary exercise.
Having read the print version years ago, I thought I'd try the audiobook version to see how it managed the mangling of the English language. The narrators got a little too dramatic, and I think this story reads better in print.

I closed Ella Minnow Pea feeling both stunned and stirred—because beneath its quirky, clever premise of disappearing letters lies a chilling truth about the slow, systematic erosion of free speech. What begins as an absurd decree quickly turns into a haunting mirror of real-world censorship, where the population either conforms blindly or is too scared, too helpless, to resist.
What shook me most was not just how language was stripped away, but how people turned against each other—reporting neighbors, friends, even family—forgetting that the same system would soon silence them too. It’s a powerful allegory of complicity. It shows how tyranny doesn’t arrive with sirens—it creeps in, cloaked in tradition, morality, and fear.
And in the face of that fear, the book quietly reminds us that we need one another. That civil resistance, solidarity, and collective action are the only antidotes. Ella Minnow Pea isn’t just a fable—it’s a warning. A timely one. And one I won’t be forgetting.
