I initially decided to read this edition of Romeo and Juliet because I hadn’t read any Shakespeare since high school but I remember enjoying it quite a bit, especially the classic romance of Romeo and Juliet of course. I figured I would enjoy it even more so and get more out of it having a college education under my belt, more time to spend reading it, and best of all no homework assignments or exams due at the end. I enjoyed this particular edition even more than I expected to and am now encouraged to read and study even more Shakespeare in my free time. The notes were great and the essays at the beginning and end of the text gave great context and depth of meaning that I had never had previously when reading Shakespeare. Overall I highly recommend this Barnes and Noble edition of Romeo and Juliet and look forward to reading more!
Will always be my favorite play :) It has a special place in my heart because this is the story that took me from a book lover to a BOOK LOVER. Even if it technically isn't a book...I fell completely in love with language.

Romeo and Juliet was my Shakespeare of choice for last month. It was another of his books I had read during my secondary school days and I wanted to give it another read to see what I thought of it now.
Back at school I didn’t appreciate it, I appreciated the Leonardo DiCaprio movie a lot more for some reason 😉 But now I thankfully could enjoy the play as an adult.
We all know what happens in Romeo and Juliet, the famous love story that is all about teenage infatuation which ends in tragedy. I think it is remarkable that Shakespeare managed to write such a powerful play that has remained popular for hundreds of years!
The many themes such as fate, love, family obligations, death and honour that are packed into this tale. There is comedy and a darkness to the story that he blends together well which kept me engaged throughout. I read it in only a couple of hours as, like all of Shakespeare’s plays, are quite short. I have been really enjoying my recent monthly dip into his plays and I am looking forward to getting to more this year!
