The book is fine. It’s a classic. It’s important to know it to see the through lines to today’s modern lexicons. The lines are great and memorable, it’s Shakespeare. But what knocks it down for me is that it’s a tragedy and I don’t like any of these characters. So when tragedy strikes, I just don’t care. Also why is this the standard high school freshman book? There are way better books that can teach tragedy or playwriting or modern lexicon or literally anything else good you might glean from this book. High school freshman? Why? Do better.
