Just like the first book in the series, this is a book for people who like crying and being angry. If you have triggers, check them because there are triggers galore. But Fredrick Backman really knows how to make me feel things. I can see how some people might not like the style of writing. There is a lot of what I'd like to call profound sentences. It's not always simple prose. And it is sad. And it is dark. And it is injust. But it's so good.

I've seen people say they don't care about Vidar's death because he was only introduced this book, but it still really got to me. I always think that a good literary death is measured by the people left behind. And Teemu is such an interesting character that it felt important to have him suffer this loss. And Anna, oh Anna! I am still mad at her for outing Benji, but what a price to pay.

i truly cannot begin to describe how well this sequel followed up beartown. firstly, i’m emotionally ruined. did i think a character that was introduced like halfway thru the book would impact me as much as he did? no. but did he nonetheless? yea. yet again, maya and anna are strong girls who r really women. i was so disappointed in anna for the like 30% of this book but ill give her this, she takes accountability. maya is literally a badass i love her. DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON BENJI OK? DONT. BC I WILL NEVER GET OVER HIM I LOVE HIM HES SO STRONG AND MY POOKIE.

forever ingrained in my brain and now taking a breather from this series because frankly, my emotions CANNOT handle the damage these books do to it. five stars is easy. listen to the audio it will change ur life.
