Fredrik Backman is an amazing author! Just when I think I have read his best work he blows me away with an even better book! This book had me chuckling and crying. It was wonderful to read about the continuation of some of the Beartown characters’ stories and new characters. My only complaint is the overuse of the word darling…gag! Ready to read Winners now!

i would say that i felt more comfortable reading this in comparison to Beartown, but this book is disgustingly perfect in the way it was written, how humane it felt reading this, it was like i was on the edge on a cliff every damn time and that Mr Fredrik Backman just has a way of misdirecting the readers in the best way possible to keep our attention to the book. amazing.

update (2025):
no words. this book was just an amazing experience. i just breezed through it almost with no breaks. my eyes are puffy from the amount of tears i dropped randomly, because bro i cannot choose which chapters was the best, the most impactful, emotional, or just simply, perfect from this book. compared to beartown, this book surely has more positive undertones that gives a "hopeful" feeling in comparison to the overshadowing of disaster that was the first 50% of "Beartown". In this one, many character frustrate me, but gives me hope for development and a little snippet of their future, like they were real people and tbh, i love it because why am i relieved these characters are not just dead but instead, thriving after going through ALL OF THAT. dang. maybe my life means something as well, if i can feel this heavily towards fictional characters. now i'm not afraid anymore to give this book a 5/5 like the first one, it was just that good.

Very sad and emotional look at a small town obsessed with Hockey. But incredibly insightful into the human spirit. Frederick Bachman writes about damaged people very well.

I did not realize when I picked this book up that it is the second book in a series about Beartown. I did not feel like I was in the middle of a story a missing details: this book can and does stand alone.
How Fredrick Backman is able to weave stories about everyday life an emotional is truly a gift. This story has a little if everything that is bad and grating in this world, and through Backman’s gift we come to see, know, and feel the life of each character. Thank you, Mr. Backman, for another great novel! Well done.

I really liked this book. I have not read the first Beartown book, so I didn’t know anything about the author or his style. He has a clear, unique voice, with poetic choppy sentences. About 3/4 through the book, I started feeling it was too long, but I came around by the end, and now feel it was just right. He had to lay enough groundwork to allow him enough thread to pull it together towards the end. It is about the poetic struggle of life in a small town. Very moving book; I teared up a number of times during the last few chapters. I highly recommend it.
