In interviews Emma gives Toby much more grace than I do in my head.
I have never been able to conceptualize DID very well before this book.

The main character (representative of the author) has dissociative identity disorder. A large portion of the book is set in therapy sessions with "Toby" -- and those sessions are fraught, partly due to "Toby's" inexperience with D.I.D. and partly due to what seem to be poor boundaries and unprofessional behavior.

A weird story that I didn’t really enjoy reading but forced myself to read anyway because I could empathize with the interesting main character and wanted to find out if things ended well for her. Thankfully it seemed to be a relatively happy ending. The book is for fans of really raw and meaningful storytelling - a memoir that’s more like a deep diary entry than an actual story.
