Just like The Song of the Marked, I found this book to be enjoyable. It definitely got more interesting the further in the book I got, but it was also rather predictable.
Other than that I really wanna boast about how much I love the character that is Nephele. A strongwilled goddess of storm. How much I love her. But I also love the magic system in this series. It’s interesting, and I am excited to know which gods and/or goddesses are in the next books.

Pleasantly impressed! Book one was good, book two - wow oh wow did I find myself devouring this read! This book explored way more of the lore, the mysterious power in Cass, and didn’t waste too much time with the “you lied to me so I hate you now” trope thankfully. Am I the only enemies to lovers girlie who is starting to burn out on this particular scenario?

Good stuff! Really creative plot and the relationship-building is thoughtful and complex. I loved that it tied back a bit to some of Gaither’s other work without being too heavy-handed.

For the most part I am really enjoying this series. It can be slow at times (there were a few times I really struggled through the pacing of the story) and I’m hoping there’s some more resolution to Casia’s discoveries of herself. I worry that this is going to be dragged out for too long, but I think that could just be my own issue with not enjoying a long drawn out character growth and I could see that happening with all of her different powers.
Overall, however, the story is great and the magic world building is very interesting with all the different gods and lesser spirits. Sometimes things feel over explained and other times under explained, but I’m excited to continue the story.
