The second book got better. The FMC is still angsty, but it's tolerable. I like the MMC. The author went a slightly different direction with him than is typical for romantasy, and it's a nice change. The banter between the characters is nice as well. It feels real, like things you would say to your own friends and family when giving them shit.

Th author does have a strange way of using "that" instead of "the" sometimes. She's using it when there isn't a specific object or any needed emphasis on the object. It's a little jarring.
