My reaction to this book is really weird. I really enjoyed the first book and I can't pinpoint what exactly made me lose interest, but I had a thought about the point where she was about to meet her brother on the battlefield and realized I just didn't care about the story anymore. I think I was still enjoying the romance between Casia and Elander (the scene in the library was pretty fun), but I think all the rest of it was just....kinda boring. I just didn't care about any of it anymore. I think the brother was getting a little old being exactly the same the entire time, the friends were the same the entire time, she wasn't really learning any more about her magic in the long run and I was over it. Sorry!! I wanted to be in it more but I just lost my interest at some point......not going back for the third book. Too many books, not enough time!

I liked this book much better than the first one! I feel like the story finally went somewhere while the first book felt like a set up for the series.

My biggest complain about this book is that it was really repetative. Casia would reunite with her friends, they would decide they need to go somewhere, on the way there they would encounter a random monster, would fight and get seperated, Casia would almost die just for Elander to show up save the day and then leave again. Repeat 2 or 3 more times and that was the majority of this book. I think that if we got to see more of Elanders Povs or the Povs of Casia's friends the book wouldn't have felt so formulaic.

I also wished that the book focused more on Casia learning about her powers, politcs and lore over all, which I found to be really interesting, instead of focusing of Casia fighting random monsters which, to me, was really boring!!!

Some questions answered and more questions created. Again, parts of this one were slow for me to get through, but the action sequences were exciting. Definitely getting more attached to the characters and feeling their struggles (of which there are many). On to the next!
