This is literally one of the creepiest books I’ve ever read. Also...one of the first books that I’ve read that make me reallllll happy I don’t have kids. Seriously creepy book written by a seriously talented writer. Highly recommend-but you’ve been warned!

It’s was decent, daughter is mute, with some psychological issue that the parent doesn’t get help for until it’s too late.

Mom can see that something is wrong, but dad doesn’t because she is an Angel when she is apt if dad.

She is super smart for her age, but is on the spectrum.

She is fascinated with killing her mom. And it’s not until she comes very close, that they get her some help.

The dad made me so made in this.

This was an interesting exploration of the mother daughter relationship, the strain it can place on a mother's identity, and mental illness and the ways it is passed down generationally. We follow the alternating perspectives of Suzette and her 7 year old daughter Hannah. Suzette is struggling with Hannah's extreme behavior, which she keeps hidden from her father. She is violent and scary, but never in front of her father. The sections written from the mother's perspective were much more effective for me, as they tackled questions of identity in motherhood and the struggle to be a "good mother" in the face of adversity,  although sometimes with a frightening peek at Suzanne's own trauma. In most ways, Suzanne is not likeable as a mother. The Hannah chapters were okay, I did enjoy some of the sweet childish descriptions, but I'm not a big fan of the child's perspective. Throughout the book I kept vacillating between the interpretation that Hannah was indeed an evil and homicidal child, and that she was actually just a very sad and abused little girl. I actually got a bit emotional during the scene where the mom destroys her potato friend. I wasn't satisfied with the ending, that seemed to want to keep the mystery open for a possible sequel instead of providing any resolution or concrete explanation. Overall, I enjoyed some of the concepts explored here and the book kept me entertained, but I'm left kind of sad and unsatisfied.

Whaatttttt did I just ready!
Wherever you think this book is going, I promise you it’s not! Haha
What a phenomenally original plot!
Twists and turns, it makes me genuinely uneasy reading!

Meh. I mean it wasn't terrible but there were parts of this book that confused me regarding the mother's behavior and how the author just skipped over those parts.

I think it is almost always unbelievable when you have a young child that's "plain evil." This book was no exception.

Toxic mother-daughter dynamic and an oblivious father... trailblazing.

I kind of was expecting something more creepy, more intense in the beginning; but as it progressed I thought this book was incredibly sad and devastating in the end. Hanna did piss me off and at times I thought she was the child of Lucifer, but mental illness is no joke (especially with kids) and this really painted that picture for you. I did think it was a bit slow in the beginning and wanted to just get on with it and over with in the beginning, but overall I enjoyed it in an odd way. Not a way I thought I would enjoy it. Weird messed up read that I encourage everyone to read.
