Too much reminding us what happened in books 1 & 2.

Too much having the same conversation twice but from different perspectives.

Too little seeing how amazing book 2 was.

04/14/2020 Notes:

4.5 Stars for Narration by Wil Wheaton
4 Stars for Overall Plot & Progression

Going by past re-reads, I will probably up the rating from 4 later. I could see where the story was going but I enjoyed the journey to it. There's promise of potential offshoot stories and that would be awesome!

I just can't... this fucking ending!
I just "loved" how a MAJOR plot development was just thrown in like it was nothing.
The rest of the book I was reading in a state of shock.
Enough said!

A great end the the trilogy, and I love the little comment about Earth at the end which
Spoiler suggests that Earth may have been colonised by these guys some 1500 years before,
which would mean humans didn't come from Earth originally, and now this trilogy is suddenly historical fiction rather than sci-fi :D
.

But then, I'm easily amused...

Okay. To be honest, it felt a little rushed. Not quite as good as the rest of the series, but it's Scalzi so bloody good none the less.

Buy this series and read it.

This was possibly one of the most satisfying series conclusions of ever. And at the end...that part in the church where someone walked in...and then made that comment...I laughed so hard I literally had tears in my eyes. A perfect moment was had, lol.

I love when a series ends with exactly what needs to happen and what makes sense. Especially in this sort of series when just about everything has gone to shit, not everyone can make it out alive and unscathed. I'm glad scalzi was able to make sacrifices and kill off or isolate characters when the story demanded it.

Also, a personal thank you from me to scalzi for creating Kiva Lagos. She's one of my favorite characters I've ever read. Like top 5. And I've pretty much been reading for 32 years. She's so unique and abrasive and selfish and flawed. I absolutely adore her.

Really, all the characters in this series are great. I'm more concerned with plot, but I get extra invested when there are well written characters. The science is detailed and plausible without being so overly technical it becomes confusing. The characters seem real and all have feelings and motivations and agendas that are believable and complex, which makes it that much more enjoyable to watch them all interact.

I loved this series, I loved this book, and I hope scalzi writes all his future books with this tone and detail and mastery. (less like old man's war).

Also, cheers to book depository for getting my preorder here (NJ, US) from the UK 4 days after its release date in the middle of a global pandemic. And all for like $9, free shipping, and another perfectly sized bookmark.

Ľutujem len tri veci:

• že som túto sériu neobjavila skôr
• že nemá aspoň gazilión častí
• a že som si neurobila čiarku vždy, keď som narazila na slovo fuck (seriózne, to by bol fuck count)
