Well, that's that. I'll miss the handsome psychopath with his sardonic humor. It was an enjoyable series for the most part, especially the first two and this last one, but all good things must come to an end. Good bye Dexter, it's been a fun.

This book seemed like a novella stretched out to trick people into thinking it was a novel, so many unnecessary details everywhere, even more than usual for this series, the humor was pretty much missing and the conclusion of the story was simply boring, this should've just been a couple more episodes in the former book and it would've been less of a mess.

Maybe a 3.5
As I have in all the other books, I love Dexter's narration. It's hilarious. And this book wasn't an exception. I love the humor of this series. Though I will say his thoughts were focused a lot more on doubts in himself we didn't see previously and I could see how readers might not like that. Dexter is losing his touch. It didn't really bother me though. In fact throughout the first two thirds of this book I was loving it and was completely engrossed; I thought for sure I'd be giving it a 5 stars.
But then came on some plots points that I don't think totally made sense. It was pretty clear it was happening to fabricate certain character interactions as opposed to an organically occurring event that would make sense in their predicaments. And in terms of a conclusion to such a long running series I'm not sure that this actually wrapped anything up any better than ending the series at the seventh book exactly as it was. It's more final for sure, but there are still things I want to know. And I really, really wish we had a different ending.
Overall, I've loved this series and I will miss Dexter very much.

I am half in love with Dexter. The book Dexter, not the TV one.
WTF kind of ending is that??? Mediocre book and a horrible ending to a great series. I have to say that this seemed rushed and unplanned. Too many loose ends for an ending.
The ending sucks! Otherwise it was great but I didn't think it was a good ending to the series at all.
After season 1, the TV series deviated from books and both had some standout storylines. However, I was not a fan of the way they ended the TV series so when DEXTER IS DEAD popped up on an search, I couldn’t resist ordering it to find out how the author concluded the story of my favourite vigilante.
The books begins with Dexter in jail for crimes he didn’t commit and when he is released because of paperwork technicalities, he turns to the only person who not only can help, but also truly understand him.
I wouldn’t say this is the strongest book in the series but reading Dexter’s thoughts as he battles faking feelings with his insatiable appetite still makes for some very entertaining reading.
