A wonderful audiobook listen

Such a beautiful story! I could even hear the wind on the prairie as the author describes it.

A cute little story; my children all enjoyed this simple read. I really like that it was actually based on a true event in the author's family history.

Part of our Newberry award bingo list. This is a SUPER short book and we listened to Glenn Close read the audiobook and she was Fantastic! Probably made the book. Once you get past the mail order bride aspect (still super weird!), it is really quite heartwarming story about kids wanting to be liked by a possible parental figure and the heartache of missing a place you feel connected to. It’s not necessarily the story that works it is the little side descriptions that make this book.

Reminds me strongly of Anne of Green Gables, which I read just a couple years ago for the first time.
My only real beef with this book is that the main character is supposed to be a child, but only occasionally acts like one.
