I read this book in the 4th grade or so, and even then this was a touching book. I remember wondering what it was like for the children to grow up without a mother and hoping that Sarah would stay.

Tried to read this to Juliette but she got bored so I finished it. Nice story of a family gaining a new wife/mother and the wife/mother making a new life on her own. I almost broke down reading the beginning of the first mother's death. Things certainly change when you have children!

She sure was plain and tall

honestly it's so important to me that she's Sarah, plain and tall & not Sarah, beautiful and fair. anyway. here's a little bit of nostalgia for u [vivid memories of reading this in 4th grade]

Why are all middle school books either like “my mom is dead and everything is depressing” or “let me shoot you with my poop gun!!”

A feel good book with a nice story of love in a different time. I saw the movie before I knew that was based on the book. Both are great.

Short, sweet and simple.

Glenn Close is a master reader!

Beautiful and sad and hopeful. Fantastic story!

Absolutely charming
