This book is short and simple, but so sweet and offers much to think about and discuss, with themes of family, love and loss. It’s equally charming for kids and adults.

Sarah, Plain and Tall (Sarah, Plain and Tall, #1) by Patricia MacLachlan – I loved the book as a kid! Glen Close and Christopher Walken do an amazing job in the movies based on this book! Happy Reading!
Great, quick read aloud experience with my 7 and 9 year old boys. Good for sense of place, nature and historical elements.
I read this book for our Mother/Daughter book club that Hope and I are trying. It was short and sweet.
A matter-of-fact woman becomes a mail order bride and changes the life of a young family. Gentle, subtle, sweet.
I had never read this classic, and had no idea it was such a lovely, short read. Clean prose, sincerity, and a straightforward tale with some good discussion points underneath it, this is a lovely children's novel. The oddity of advertising for a wife--or accepting such an ad--is strange to today's American audience, but it provides a sad backdrop to a lovely tale.
Sarah, Plain and Tall begins with Anna and Caleb being without a mother. It's just them and their father working the farm to get through the day. Until one day when their father says he put an add in the newspaper for a wife, and he may have found one.
Sarah, from Main, responds to the letter and wants to get to know them better, and give them a trial run for a month.
Now, Anna and Caleb must prepare for Sarah to come, and hopefully to make her want to stay with them forever.
This book is a very emotional story about two children who wish to have a mother, a man who needs a woman by his side, and a woman who is lonely in her world, but comes to a new place and misses home.
I loved this book as a child myself, but as an adult I still really liked it, but it seems to have lost some of it's magic now. And I really kind of wonder if people still put bride orders in the newspaper... Something to ponder later.
Anyways, I liked this book and I think it's great for school, and for kids growing up. I also can't wait to read more in this series since there are a few more books to it as well.

Sweet Childrens story
Ahhhh, heart warming books are the best to read as Winter fades to Spring this side of the globe!
I think what really got me was that the children weren't the stereotypical: "You're not my real mom!!" sort that pop up all over the place like pimples before the prom, they were really likable and yet believable children as well.
And Sarah was lovely! A strong woman but a loving one, and anyone who can love three raggedy chickens, rather than eating them, will always go down as a great person in my books!
One day I hope to see the sea again and when I do, I will take this little book with me to re-read, just so that Sarah can feel the magic all over again!
Recommended for anyone who just wants a bit of, "Aw" in their life.
