Going into this book, I thought that it was a horror. I suppose that it is. An adult kind of horror. Wen broke my heart and in the end it is all just sad. Really sad.

Really dissapointing. Such a great concept with horrible execution.

This book DRAAAAGS on forever. I listened to it on audio at 2 times speed at one point and it still felt slow and dragged on. Things are repeatedly told to a point where I had to check if I'd accidentally listened to the same part twice. And all that just for the ending to be such a let down aswell.

meh

I read this book because I'd seen the film and hoped that the book would resolve some of my questions about what happened in the film and why. It did not.

I think the narrator on the audiobook ruined this one for me. I am giving it the benefit of the doubt that it wouldn't have been trash had I read it myself.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a short read for me, and I enjoyed the mix of horror of the inevitable with a home invasion. It also did a decent job of mixing elements of supernatural and religious themes without forcing any one idea down the reader’s throat. The family dynamic is beautiful and heartbreaking in the best way.

I’m not sure how to sum up my feelings about this book. I had really high hopes as I’ve heard lots of great things, and while I did enjoy it and it leaves you with a lot to think about, i also felt i fell flat in the end.

The premise is fascinating. What would it take for you to believe you have the power to prevent the world ending? What would you be willing to sacrifice to save humanity? What’s more selfless, killing one of your own to potentially stop the apocalypse, or do nothing in case it’s all a lie? It really makes you think about what you would do in this situation.

This felt very full of grief, and explored how different people react to that in their own ways, especially when you’re faced with it during a time where you cannot process your feelings properly. I took a sense of sadness away from this more than being frightened, but that’s what I enjoy about horror, it can make you feel so many things.

I will be reading more Paul Tremblay as I’m interested in his storytelling!
