It has enjoyable parts but it reads more like a walkthrough than a book. The missions and cutscenes of the game are just written down. If you really really want to play assassin's creed but don't have any way to play it I guess the books are the next best thing?
And did the pope really just say YOLO?

It was entertaining at least. I loved the Ezio story in the games so I didn't expect much from a novelization of it. The pace was a bit weird, but otherwise it wasn't bad.
I don't know about the game, but the book wasn't anything special. Way too fast time jumps and so on. It could be amazing story if the author put more efforts writing down how they tracked the Codex and so on and on... The change of 17 to 44 years old Enzio wasn't smooth at all.
God, did it seriously take me over a month to finish this? Eh... Such is life. It was a bit clunky in places and got bogged down in its own detail and descriptions from time to time, but for being a book based on a video game this was very good. I loved the historical setting and the people Ezio met, from da Vinci to Lorenzo Medici to Borgia. And the fictional characters were wonderful as well - Teodora and Paola were two of my favorites :) It was fun trying to pick out which were the play-through bits vs the cut scenes from the game. Excited for the next book, and the movie!
I didn’t read the previous books of this series. With that being said:
Interesting plot. But I felt like that the main character spent way too much time avenging his family and planning his revenge which took him years. I understood his reasons, but it just didn’t feel very brilliant to me.
I like the fact that we could see some famous characters from the renaissance, like Leonardo Da Vinci and Nicholas Machiavelli. Really loved Leonardo in this book, the author wrote him very well in this novel.
My final rate is 3/5 stars. I don’t think I will read the other books of this series.

After good few years I've finally managed to complete this book and I wasn't disappointed at all. As someone, who also enjoys the game, but don't have much time (or nerves) for it, this is a quite nice change, albeit not that huge one. It's a good start of the series that didn't disappoint at all, aside from those few time skips that happened out of nowhere and where you least expected it.
I must say that even before I heard of the books I had a soft spot for Ezio and Leonardo. Oh Leonardo, that man would be a pure heartbreaker if he weren't focused only on his works, but can you blame him? I adore Leonardo, how he focused on what he loved and helped Ezio to complete his quest. I must admit I had to reread a couple of sentences as I wasn't used to read such words in a book (especially in my native language), but it was certainly a delight. It also made the characters seem like human the most, I mean, who doesn't cuss in this age and day?
The only downside to this book I could give to those small time skips that came out of nowhere, because at some point you suddenly ended one year later and I believe that could be led a bit differently.
All in all, I am not disappointed to read it. If it's adapted on a game or not I don't mind and I believe these books are also for those similar to me; having no time to play, but manage to find some for a book.

Well holy moly I can’t believe I’ve finished it! This book was honestly quite incredible. It was nice to see the story of my favourite video game come onto paper.
Although the writing was a little, different than what I’m used to, almost simple I would say, it made it a quick read. Often I found the characters lacking in personality, and although the characters have personality in the video game I can see why it might have been difficult to put it on paper. Concerning the rich storyline that this book needed to tackle.
Nevertheless I have still a huge, undying crush on Ezio. Holy crap that man is perfect ❤️ Overall this book is a definite four star read and I’m quite excited to take a break from annotating with the rest of the assassins creed series. If you want to feel the rich storyline of Renaissance Italy (which you definitely do) but aren’t a gamer this book is PERFECT.
