The only reason I picked this up was to see exactly how a game is novelized. Well, first of all novelization wasn't that great. The actions of the character were described in a very amateur fashion.
Base of the story missing
Okay, this might be adapted from the second game of the series but it should have explained the origin of the stories. The whole thing being based in the present and the animus machine. I just couldn't believe author chose to ignore that. He might explain it in later book in the series but I disliked this enough to not continue this series.
Huge lack of character development
The only character we truly understood was Ezio Auditore. Rest all were just a huge mystery. They came in and went out. That's it ! We didn't get time to understand them, to bring him into our hearts.

I feel like this was poorly written, and it added nothing to the game line except a little insight to what Ezio was thinking and his motivations behind his actions. But, while that may have been good, the terrible writing distracted heavily from my ability to enjoy this novel.
Read this for a challenge that I kept putting off. Was glad to see when this fit. While I never got fully into the games, I thought I could enjoy the book and I really did. Took me a while to get through it, taking breaks from it and such, seemed a lot longer than it was, but I did really enjoy it. Awesome narrator as always, Gildart is one of my favorites!!
I got into this straight away and really enjoyed it, although I got a little confused by the seemingly unordered way it jumped forward in time throughout Ezio's life. I got bored towards the end, which I don't think was helped by the massive numbers of characters and similar sounding names. 3*.
This was a slow, somewhat tedious read. It was dry and difficult to follow at times with inconsistent plot pacing - vast stretches of book with not a lot happening and then a lot would occur suddenly within a few pages. There were a lot of characters to keep track of, often with similar names which was quite confusing. I wasn't sure all of the language was appropriate for the 1400s, for example "canny bugger". Would you really have called someone a canny bugger in 1485 Italy?
