Having been a long time fan of the video game series I thought I would give this novel a try. For starters the novel is quite brisk in its imagining of the game world. The setting jumps quite rapidly through time and in some cases leaves the reader with the feeling them have missed something. The pacing is a bit off as well with certain points feeling very rushed as if they had no time to focus on the story but rather just get everything from the game down on paper and in under 400 pages.
Because of these pacing issues the characters have no time to grow or be fleshed out. they are simply tools to take us from scene to scene without any real use.
Hopefully their next attempt slows it down a bit and focuses on good character development rather than a speedy chase through history for the sake of novelising a video game.

Трябва да призная, че очаквах повече от първата книга, може би защото започнах да я чета след Колелото на времето и цялата история просто препуска през детайлите. Въпреки това си взех втората книга ще и дам още един шанс на Bowden, дано да е по-интересна :)
It isn’t very well written and the author adds almost nothing to the story that didn’t exist in the game. One of the (very few)changes made in the book is that a very-late-in-game revelation is moved to an early chapter as part of an exposition dump. This actually alters the roles and motivations of several key characters in such a way that makes them far less interesting. I didn’t necessarily want a book on the same level as Almaty by Vladimir Bartol. In fact, the bar was low for me. But the bar could’ve been on the floor and this novelization wouldn’t be able to get over it.
