I thoroughly enjoyed this one! If you know the DC universe, there are lots of characters you'll recognize that aren't primary ones. The use of color is interesting. Overall, a very good story and reading experience!

Batman: Nightwalker (The Graphic Novel) begins with a young Bruce Wayne inheriting the fortune of his deceased parents. At the same time, a criminal group called The Nightwalkers is menacing the wealthy citizens of Gotham. As he travels through the city, Wayne observes police cars in pursuit. He follows them and realizes that The Nightwalkers are going to get away, so he intervenes. The police do not view Wayne's participation in the capture of The Nightwalkers positively and Wayne is sentenced to spend the summer doing community service at Arkham Asylum. At Arkham, Bruce Wayne meets one of The Nightwalkers that was arrested, Madeline. Wayne believes that there is more to Madeline than her criminal past and he conducts an investigation of his own to discover who she really is.

The illustrations add to the graphic novel by portraying the emotions of the characters effectively. The majority of the illustrations are done in black in white, but the occasional yellow serves to highlight especially climatic scenes. The graphic novel is filled with action and fans of the DC Icons series will enjoy this book as well. It was an interesting portrayal of the beginning of the journey Bruce Wayne takes toward becoming Batman.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher I was able to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Batman: Nightwalker is a graphic adaptation of the book with the same name by Marie Lu.
It was a fun ride with teenaged Bruce struggling to understand what he wants out of life and where he wants to go in it. With best friends Dianne and Harvey, as well as the constant Alfred, Bruce is in a good place for this.
On Bruce’s 18th birthday he gets into trouble interfering with a police chase and has to serve community service at Arkham Asylum where he meets Madeleine, a member of the infamous Nightwalker’s, who starts to talk to him. Is Bruce getting the truth or lies from her? He’s going to have to figure it out quick because the Nightwalkers are escalating and Bruce Wayne may not be safe from their list.

I honestly expected more from this book. I am not sure what I wanted from it, but I know I felt a little disappointed; however, I did like this book. The art was great and very easy to follow. I also felt that the art told this story nicely.

I did not read the novel, so I can't talk about about Marie's Lu writing much, but Stuart Moore did an ok job. I think he captured the voice of what a teenager would sound like.

I wish we could of focused more on the Nightwalkers. I felt that it was undeveloped which is ashame because they could of done so much with it. I do love a good Robin Hood story when done right.

Batman Nightwalker is originally part of the D.C. Icon series. Each book focused on a YA version of a different character. This story focuses on Bruce Wayne on his 18th birthday. He leaves his party and ends up in the middle of a high speed car chase between the Nightwalkers and police. Instead of getting arrested, Bruce must complete community service at Arkham Asylum. Here he meets Madeleine Wallace and decides to get involved in the case.

The story is good, but you have to remember it is an Elseworld title. Regular continuity doesn't apply. Bruce is acting like Batman before he is Batman, but it still gives you everything you want in a Batman Detective story. Sometimes Bruce is a little slow to realize the clues, but he is only 18 years old and hasn't been trained yet.

Art and colors follow the same patterns that the other superhero YA books used. Everything is shades of grey except for yellow accent colors. The limited color palette is a nice touch that I really enjoyed.

Overall Batman Nightwalker is a fun story that kids will enjoy. You don't need any previous Batman knowledge to enjoy this book. I will definitely be adding it to my classroom library.

If you like canon this isn't for you. I hate canon so I ate this shit up. Not a Batman book more like a Bruce Wayne book.

This story definitely pushed the boundaries of suspension of disbelief. Bruce is 18 and just about to graduate high school. He attempts to stop the Nightwalker and in the process he crashes his car, hindering a police pursuit. What happens to this 18 y/o boy? He gets sent to the most dangerous mental asylum for community service. Uh? He’s given pretty much free reign in said asylum. He is then allowed to investigate one of the Nightwalker suspects, a known murderer. Uh? It’s just a little too juvenile and silly to be at all believable. Received an ARC at BEA/DC Ink
