when in Athens it was only right to read a book about athenians from ancient times!! not my usual reading but so unexpected - cheeky and charming but also moving with a lot of depth. an incredibly unique story (or maybe that’s just because I don’t usually read stuff like this), such a good holiday read and nice to break up the sad reads with a more joyful one like this!
3.5 stars. I liked the concept a lot and the storyline was good but the actual telling of the story was kind of bland. I was really looking forward to this book and was hoping for a much more dynamic and engaging story. It was fine. Didn’t waste my time with it but would have a hard time recommending it to others.

I didn’t know what to expect from this book, historical fiction usually isn’t something I get into but this book had me hooked. The transformation of the characters kept me entertained, this book discusses hope in many ways but also tragedy.

Gave up on the audiobook at around 40%, might try in a written format instead. I expected to love this one based on the premise and considering the author narrated it, but I had a hard time following the story and character names due to the thick Irish accent and unfortunately missed a lot of what's going on.
