Delightfully reminiscent of both Jennifer's Body and IT, Zombabe was incredibly fun to read. Not only was it an excellent coming of age story, but an exploration of both the literal poison of the town and the metaphorical poison of abuse.

This is really a book of two halves for me.
The setup was really interesting, and the first few pages hooked me, but then it felt quite stale until about halfway through when the POV of the main villain was introduced and I felt compelled to follow through and find out what happened. That was enough to get me to read to the end, and there was some very good parts, especially with the build up of suspense and real sense of danger and drama as the story worked towards the climax.
I liked the main characters a lot, although Jules did feel a bit like a caricature, and I was really rooting for Dude and Babe. I do wish Kate had some character development - her story feels a bit unfinished. I think the absolute best parts were the author's portrayals of Ryan and Hunter - both the emotional-manipulation and controlling parent and the unhinged, traumatised violent teenager felt extremely real and well done. The ending was also very satisfying.
I think if the first half of the book matched the second half, it would be four stars, but I really had to power through for a while. Overall, I did enjoy it, but I don't think I'll be picking up the sequels.
