I just cannot bring myself to care about this book.

This was the first BookTube recommendation that really disappointed me.

I had hopes in the beginning. I thought the slow pacing would lead to a grand finale.
yeah i was wrong…

There is just not much happening in this book - it could have been half it‘s length and you wouldn‘t notice. Also way too many ocean metaphors. Maybe it was also the audio book narrators doing but Effie seemed so god damn melodramatic.

I know this is supposed to be some feminist take on „reclaiming your power/ story“ SO HOW COME SHE FINDS HER VOICE WHEN SHE FUCKS A DUDE.
I swear this story tries to be so deep but fails to give their characters depth which in turn makes the story fall flat.

Also the Cruel Prince Style obsessed writing of the FMC‘s name in a book? It just doesn‘t work here. Don‘t try painting her as this super intriguing person to all the men when she literally does nothing ever.

A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid

Who will like it: the scary fairies or the fairies aren’t the romantic interest

Book review: I really wanted to like this. I love scary fairies I love dark and desolate settings. Actually, I did enjoy the setting. Everything was waterlogged. Everything was dreary. It was great.

What I didn’t love was the main character Effy. The girl had some trauma so she had reasons for being the way she was, but it was just so hard to like her or root for her because everything was always a downer.

I love the academic themes. I love the Lore, but it just wasn’t enough for me to like the book as a whole.
