Been trying back any forth to get into it and though the prose is gorgeous I can't get behind the story especially the xenophobia

“I was a woman when it was convenient to blame me, and a girl when they wanted to use me.”

definitely not enemies to lovers nor rivals to lovers as it was marketed, but there is one-sided hate (more like prejudice and ignorance).

i truly felt for effy, an architecture student who wants to be a literature student but because of school policy, women can’t be admitted because they are frivolous and emotional creatures blah blah blah it honestly made me rethink my choices and where i am in life right now, and though i won’t be able to voluntarily leave the field i’m in unless i do get kicked out nor am i half as smart as effy, it’s always lovely to see someone realize their dreams, even if they’re fictional.

i love preston, but it’s worth noting that he’s the only likeable male character because everyone else are disgusting chauvinistic pigs, which i guess is integral to the story.

“There was an intimacy to all violence, she supposed. The better you knew someone, the more terribly you could hurt them.”
