Wow. This book was just… wow.

I do wish the climax with the Fairy King was given a little more attention; it felt cut off, like it was resolved too quickly.. however, this book is bittersweet because the way it wraps up is so satisfying but I also wish it didn’t end *sobs* !!

I genuinely wasn’t expecting to love this as much as I did, by the end. A surprisingly beautiful and poetic book which gripped me so tightly, I finished most of it in two days. Very much looking forward to the follow up in July.

People found this book boring. I didn't. I've come to accept that I like boring books. I found this book painful. Every time I wanted to stop, I kept going out of hopes that there would be payoff, that the plot would finally kick in, that the potential I could see shimmering deep under the surface would finally be tapped into.
Instead, I got the most disappointing ending I could have imagined.
Love the vibes and Preston's a decent guy. I almost liked Effy, sometimes. Her trauma could have been explored in an interesting way. But she just fell flat and was irritating and made no sense. Emotional maturity of a 14 year old.
The fairy king was a pointless and stupid addition.
By the time I was nearing the end, I felt like I'd only read the 1st act because nothing much happened to progress the plot. I think this could have been a decent book. But it wasn't and I'm still annoyed.

This book feels like a dark fairy tale to me, and i enjoyed that very much. As the reader this book was semi-predictable in that you know the romance will blossom and you have a guess as to what the plot may be early on. But it did have the right amount of twists, and the mystery behind the Folktale keeps you guessing for a while. Overall it picked up much more in the second half of the book, and I recommend sticking out the beginning to get there. I plan on reading the 2nd book in this trilogy and hope it's as good!

I wanted to enjoy this but a lot of it fell flat. The world building definitely needed more work. There was a lot that was told and not shared so it’s hard to understand the significance of certain aspects.

I also kinda hated the FMC at times. Her backstory really needed more time for us to understand her and not be another pill to swallow.
