This is one good refresher for the entire series. I admit to forgetting so many things about the past books. This book made me realize just why I liked the series. :)
Awwww the power of pure love.. and a hint of lust here and there. Kaidan, my beloved Nephilim, is indeed one of the hottest and sweetest heroes in YA land. He's charming, hot, smart, intriguing, really caring ( although he does his best to hide it ) and has one hell of a sensitive side. The attraction he felt for Anna made him feel so many emotiona. It also made him do things he never thought he'd be able to do.
In short, it made him better.
That's why it was so worth it. Fighting for their love was worth it. :) It brought everyone peace too.
I love how everything ended.
I'm pretty sure now that I wouldn't forget what happened in this book. :)

4 stars — This book both satisfied me greatly, and missed out on a few scenes I was curious about. If you’re not into alternative POV books, then you can skip this one. I LOVE them, especially when the originals are only in one POV, because this way you get insight into another character’s head. I was both surprised and not by what it was like in Kaidan’s head. He was more selfish than I was expecting, but that fit him and made him more real somehow. The prologue alone, of him as a child, was heartbreaking and made me shudder. It was seriously hard to take the way his father treated him as though he was a commodity.
I definitely got some answers that I was seeking, and an expansion of things I had guessed based on the original books. I was surprised by the way his lust was explained, how it felt to him…that was eye opening. The epilogue totally made me cry, as I knew it would. Cry and laugh though.
The only reason this book isn’t rated higher is just that it has a bit of a disjointed feel, b/c it jumps from scene to scene instead of flowing. It makes it harder to get into it when you don’t get it all. I mean, I get why, but it’s not quite as deep.
Christian Coulson as the narrator was pretty good. I was surprised by the accent for Kaidan — it felt…lower class? I expected Kai to have a more upper crust English accent. Part of that is that I was used to the way Ms. Mallon narrated him, and I actually probably prefer her take. I was also bummed that this narrator didn’t pronounce names the same way as Ms. Mallon — I would have appreciated consistency, because it was jarring to hear a name you didn’t recognize only to realize he’d placed emphasis on different syllables, or whatnot (Zania, Pharzuph, Belial were the most egregious). And I wasn’t really a fan of his Anna voice, which was a bummer. Otherwise, though, his emotions and pacing were great, and his voices were consistent.
So yeah, totally glad I read this one, it was fun to get this big extra.

Wendy Higgins has released a teaser!
I jump from the couch and lunge at Anna, grasping her shoulders hard and pressing my ear to her cheek. I whisper as softly as I can. “My father is here.”
She stiffens under my hand. Yes, she knows what we are, therefore she knows Father is a demon. Be afraid, Anna.
I pull her to the couch and fling her down. Thank God for shirts with buttons. I rip it open, needing this scene to appear realistic. When she sucks in a shocked breath I press a finger to her lips. Her aura is a swirl of gray tones, both fear and embarrassment. This is not the time for modesty. I can’t have her appearing terrified if we’re supposed to be making out. So I toss a throw blanket at her and rip my own shirt over my head. I point to her shirt and she starts rolling her shoulders to get it off.
God, she is sexy. Even in that innocent white satin bra. Let’s hope I haven’t been a fool, and she doesn’t shove a dagger in my spine as I lower my body over hers and taste the skin at the base of her throat. I move upward to the curve of her neck and shoulder, and let out a low moan. Our skin touches and she moves underneath me in a sultry way, grasping the nearby pillows in her fists. I suddenly want all her clothes off.
The sound of Father coming down the stairs erases that thought from my mind. He knows by now I’m with a girl, but he has no notion of privacy.
When the door opens, Anna’s body jumps under me and she lets out a bleedin’ squeak. I turn my head to the door where Father stands, smiling, inching further to the side to get a better look at Anna. Damn. I can’t hide her any further without being obvious.
“My apologies, son. I didn’t realize you had company.” He is still moving casually across the room, staring.
Before I can say a word, the politeness slips from his features and his eyes flash red. I look down at Anna, who has foolishly backed away from me and allowed the blanket to fall enough to give Father a side view of her badge. I hold my breath. They definitely do not seem to know each other.
“I never imagined you’d care to entertain female Nephilim,” he grits.
Not good. Not fucking good. Neph can work together, but they are not to play together. Especially in the one-on-one way.
“I don’t normally.” I stand and move away, as if coming to my senses. “She caught me while I was bored and alone after practice.”
His face sours as he scents the air. “You will come up for tea. Both of you.” He leaves, and I ball my hands. Close my eyes. I want to punch something.
Anna is my problem. My mystery. I don’t want to share her with anyone, especially not the wolf upstairs. It’s clear now they weren’t working together. The blood has drained from Anna’s face as she clutches the blanket to her chest. I simultaneously feel sorry for her and want to shout at her that she’s a stupid, stupid girl for coming here.

Si le hubiera puesto 5 estrellas, pero es que ese Epílogo se sintió demasiado forzado pegándole a falso
This was a nice addition to the Sweet trilogy. It was interesting to see Kai's POV of various events, though not really necessary.
It was so great being in Kai's head for the length of the whole series that we got in Anna's head! I was most excited about Zarina's rescue, and it didn't disappoint! The one thing, is that things were left out of this book that were in the other books, not scenes, but parts of scenes, like in the big ending, it skips over things, and that was a bit strange, it's one thing to not show things, it can't, one book vs. three, but to show parts of things, but not all of them, kinda weird!
Honestly, I'm not quite sure why I finished this because it made me uncomfortable, unless it was because (a) I feel bad rating and reviewing [in detail] books I don't finish, and (b) I had finally climbed out of a DNF pit and didn't want to fall back in.
The hypersexualization of teenagers is an ongoing and pervasive issue, even setting aside the potentially problematic implications of — an ironic juxtaposition to the Biblical worldbuilding and binary morality. Not that I'm saying teenagers can't or shouldn't have sex. But it feels squicky for adults to be writing and reading about it with any level of detail. (I'm aware that this makes me a hypocrite; I'm not claiming otherwise.) To make things worse, the narration features tropes and cliches from Adult/New Adult romance which really shouldn't be applied to YA-aged characters. (I'm tagging this as NA because the main pairing eventually makes that crossover, and because the prose and atmosphere resemble the genre. However, explicit themes are present from the beginning, and for at least half the story one or both of them are underage.) Plus it's all very cisheteronormative, featuring underlying ace erasure.
While the general narrative arc of the trilogy is preserved, a lot of developments lose their impact because it's so stream-of-consciousness, telling-instead-of-showing, abrupt jump cuts between scenes. An alternate-POV version has the potential to be engaging in its own right, but in this case I didn't feel that it added much: just angst and sexy times.
