This is my favorite of the Bridgerton books so far and I’m not surprised by that one bit. I have a soft spot for wallflowers so I’m not exaggerating one bit when I tell you I would die for Penelope. And I don’t think Colin sucks as much as many reviewers seem to think. I see the personal journeys they each took and I’m absolutely willing to forgive his outbursts. I think they were necessary for him to gain the emotional maturity required to be a truly good partner. And his brothers were so much worse that he benefits.

I also enjoyed this more because it felt like there were real stakes. For the first time I felt the tension of these society members, which seems silly in 2024, but I was upset for Penelope when she was in danger of being found out.

The downsides are 1) I didn’t get all the groveling I wanted from Colin, 2) Violet takes a big backseat role, and 3) I don’t think Penelope’s mother atoned for overlooking her. And I could have used more Lady Danbury because her dynamic with Penelope was excellent, but that’s just wishful thinking on my part.

She was beautiful. Utterly, completely, soul-stirringly beautiful. He didn’t know how he hadn’t noticed it all these years.

POLIN!!! That should be enough — Pen and Colin are the best Bridgerton couple. Their chemistry and longing is off the charts. Colin "my wife" Bridgerton is an icon.

loved the friends to lovers trope, although Colin’s anger bothered me quite a bit, especially with the way he went about expressing it.

This book is chef's kiss!
It is beautiful from the start to ending.
Words are not enough to describe just how much I love this book and every character, except of Cressida twombley i hate her!

I miss them already!!

From now on Julia Quinn  is my new favorite author!

This is the first book I've read for the new year, and as someone coming out of a long reading slump, I found it easy to understand and engage with. It also helps that I watched the tv show based on this book to prepare for this book's adaptation, so it was a lot easier to picture most of the characters in the book.

Now for the book itself, I found it fast-paced, enjoyable, and addicting enough that I'm ready to move onto the next one. Is it predictable and cliche in terms of tropes? Yes. But sometimes cliche is what we need to get ourselves through the day and through rough slumps. After all, who doesn't love a good friends to lovers story (or in this case, my best friend's brother to lover)?
